The St Charles Center has agreed to become the fiscal sponsor for the Orleans Legacy Project (OLP). OLP is a grassroots, diverse group of New Orleans citizens who aim to bring the Orleans Parish Memorial Monument to New Orleans and install it in public space. The Monument memorializes Orleans Parish victims of racial terror killings during the Jim Crow era and is part of the larger National Memorial for Peace & Justice. Fiscal sponsorship makes donations made to OLP, through the St Charles Center for Faith + Action, tax deductible.

OLP is currently raising funds for installation of an historical marker about the 1900 Mass Lynching in New Orleans aka the Robert Charles Massacre. OLP will soon announce a dedication of the marker combined with a soil collection and remembrance ceremony for Hannah Mabry, a 60 year old grandmother killed during the 4 days of racial terror mob violence.

Follow along on the OLP Facebook Page for details and updates.

Dedication of the Historical Marker

A virtual ceremony bringing forward and acknowledging the history of four days of white supremacist racial terror violence against Black New Orleanians that followed an episode of racial profiling and resulting in the extralegal killings of seven Black people, including Hannah Mabry and Robert Charles and injuries to dozens more. We will also acknowledge the legacy of these events in the form of mass incarceration, violence against people of color and structural racism.
